Injectables & Fillers
In terms of aging skin for both men and women, time is not on our side. As we age, the normal volume of youth is lost and the face appears deflated. Gravity has taken a toll. This is a direct result of normal aging. Sun exposure accelerates changes. Your facial aging is caused not only by time and sun, but also your skin quality, muscle tone, thickness and genetics. Beauty is more than skin deep, and looking good helps you feel good about yourself.
Good news! Injectibles can add volume, redefine angles, and smooth lines and wrinkles to revitalize your appearance. Fillers are minimally invasive with immediate results, little discomfort and few risks, with little to no downtime. They are customizable to your needs and the areas to be treated. The result is a subtle, refreshed look. The key to success is the skill and artistry of your dermatologist.
Dermal fillers fill lines and wrinkles. But they do much more than that. They can smooth lines around the mouth and nose, plump sunken cheeks, diminish vertical lip lines, plump lips and smooth out chin creases. Each filler has a specific function based on the location of the problem and the cause. Each differs in chemical composition, density, and longevity. Softer fillers are often used in the lips, while more heavy duty fillers are used to restore volume and enhance the cheekbones. Dr. Miller will determine the best filler for your particular areas of concerns.
Types of Injectibles and uses
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Fillers
- Restylane® and Perlane® were amongst the earliest HA fillers and are ideal for a smoother, more youthful appearance. They have well-defined safety profiles and results are instantaneous. If you seek to restore youthful contours to your skin, and smooth away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines that run from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds), these products may be a good choice. They contain a natural substance ubiquitous in the body, derived from natural sources, and are not animal based, so there is little risk of a reaction. These fillers typically contain lidocaine to minimize discomfort during and after treatment. Over the course of 6-12 months, they are broken down and eliminated by the body.
- Radisse® is FDA approved and is a volumizing filler. It immediately provides the lift necessary to diminish wrinkles and folds. Radisse is best for smile lines, marionette lines, corners of the mouth, chin wrinkles and the pre-jowl area. The amazing lifting power of this calcium- based filler is what gives Radisse the ability to enhance and contour. The gel is filled with microspheres that provide a scaffold under the skin, which initially lifts the skin then stimulating your own collagen to grow. As the gel is metabolized it leaves behind your own natural collagen. Results are natural and subtle when performed by experienced hands. The best way to refresh your appearance is to replenish lost volume in your face. It can be sculpted to provide contour and definition, and lasts a year or more in many patients. It is the only filler that both immediately replenishes lost volume and stimulates production of your own collagen.
- Juvederm XC® is FDA approved filler that lasts up to a year with just one treatment. It treats the lines on the side of your nose and mouth (nasolabial folds) for up to a year. It has a smooth consistency which provides an even, natural look and feel and is easily customizable to ensure the natural look you seek. Side effects are minimal and last 7 days or less. With minimal downtime, you can treat vertical lip lines, raise the corners of your mouth, fix those chin wrinkles and treat the marionette lines that run from the corners of your mouth to your chin.
A non-surgical approach to facial rejuvenation is not for everyone. Fillers cannot remove excess skin or improve the texture, tone and clarity of your skin. Fillers can accomplish facial rejuvenation in subtle degrees, much different than a surgical facelift.
